Free Venue Hire trial

From 1 July 2023 Randwick City Council will undertake a trial to waive fees for the use of nominated community centres and halls for eligible local applicants. The trial period will conclude at the end of the 2023-24 financial year, or when the total fees waived reaches $25,000 (whichever occurs first).

This trial is to assist community groups and select sole traders to hire Council's community spaces for events, meetings and community gatherings.

Information

The waiving of fees for venue hire is:

  • For new bookings only, not existing bookings
  • For small not-for-profit organisations with annual revenue under $500,000 - based on the Australian Charities & Not-for-Profits (ACNC) definition. Sole traders engaged in the creative arts sector may also apply
  • Only for activities that are yet to occur (no retrospective funding)
  • Up to the value of $2,500.00 per applicant. This can be made up of multiple bookings or one booking only and
  • Applicants must meet all standard conditions of hire, including Public Liability and bond

  • Prince Henry Centre (excluded for commercial reasons)
  • Matraville Youth & Cultural Hall, 1-5 Knowles Avenue, Matraville (venue is currently closed)
  • Malabar Memorial Hall, 1203 Anzac Parade, Matraville (venue is undergoing renovation)
  • Blenheim House, 17 Blenheim Street, Randwick (venue is undergoing renovation)
  • La Perouse Museum, 1542 Anzac Parade, La Perouse (not currently available for hire) 
  • Barrett House, 6 Barrett Place, Randwick (not currently available for hire)

General Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be located within the boundaries of the Randwick LGA and/or principally servicing Randwick residents 
  • The applicant's annual revenue must be under $500,000

Eligible applicants

  • Not-for-profit organisations
  • Community and/or volunteer groups and associations
  • Social enterprises
  • Individuals and sole traders engaged in the arts, cultural and creative sector

Exclusions

  • State and Federal Government departments
  • Schools, TAFEs, colleges and universities (P&C or student associations may apply)
  • Political parties

Assessment Criteria

The applicant must demonstrate:

  • Benefit/s to Randwick’s diverse community through their proposed activity. E.g., capacity to enhance community connection, arts and culture, and/or social cohesion
  • A financial need for reduced/waived fees 

Process 

  • Applicant to review eligibility and criteria to ensure these are met 
  • Applicant to obtain quote and availability directly from respective venue team (up to $2,500.00) and place tentative hold on date/s 
  • Applicant to complete online application form with details  
  • Council Officers will assess and confirm outcome in writing via email within five working days
  • Venue team will confirm booking and issue request for bond/Public Liability
